The Glutes: How and Why We Train Them

Admit it, who doesn’t love a nice butt. There is, however, so much more to the glutes than a hot booty. Throughout history, humans have admired and adored the buttocks. This fascination even goes as far back to the people of Ancient Greece. The glutes are a collection of muscles that combine to extend, abduct and rotate the leg. In addition, they stabilize the trunk as a connection between the upper and lower torsos, and assist in maintaining an erect posture. They are composed of the Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus. It is hypothesized that during the evolution from apes to humans, the gluteal muscles were an integral part of this stabilization, by allowing a transition to an upright posture and facilitating the ability to run long distances.

Guidelines for the Practice of Lagree Fitness™ During Pregnancy

Lagree Fitness™ uses a spring based resistance machine, similar to a Pilates reformer, that is called a Megaformer. The workout is becoming more popular with women of childbearing age, many of whom will become pregnant. Although similar to a reformer, there are key differences in both the equipment and the training philosophy that make this activity challenging for the pregnant participant and trainer. We present guidelines for the practice of Lagree Fitness™, during and after pregnancy, based on the current available literature and our experience with its use in parturients.
